In the 13th century, Perillos was linked with the exploits of a fabled monster roaming the area, known as the Babaos. Today, a popular festival in Rivesaltes remembers the extraordinary events that befell the town. Dominique Setzepfandt goes in search of the reality behind the legend. A look into the stellar imagery also gives certain clues to the background of the story.

Saint Peter of Perillos

The presence of a tradition related to Saint Peter in Perillos seems to be yet another anomaly of this abandoned village. But a quest for understanding reveals that it may have a "stellar" connotation, if not an "otherwordly" one.

New electricity for an abandoned village

Rising high above Perillos' valley sits a radar station, which has been the centre of much controversy. With its recent poor track record, those rumours are only added to.

On January 11, 1963, a plane crashed on the grounds of Perillos. Forty years onwards, mystery continues to surround the precise circumstances of this crash. Specifically, when the newspapers at the time also reported about a UFO sighting and a space base from which to launch rockets.

In the early 1960s, plans were afoot to install a rocket base near Perillos, with provisions made for a radar in Perillos. Forty years later, Perillos got a radar station... Coincidence, or a long-term plan that continues to be developed?
